Our R&D studies on carpet recycling to yield results in the last quarter of this year.

Mehmet Erdemoğlu: TTSİS Board Member and Dinarsu İmalat ve Tic. T.A.Ş. Board member:
Our R&D studies on carpet recycling to yield results in the last quarter of this year.
According to Trademap statistics from the United Nations (UN), the USA, Germany, Japan, England, and Iraq are the leading countries in the import of machine-made carpets. Turkey continues to increase its trade volume with these countries except Japan. These five countries dominate 44 percent of the world's machine-made carpet imports. The leading countries in world machine-made carpet exports are Turkey, China, India, Belgium, and Iran.

TTSİS Board Member and Dinarsu İmalat ve Tic. T.A.Ş. Board Member Mehmet Erdemoğlu evaluates Turkey's position in machine carpet production as follows: “Turkey has the largest capacity in the world and is in the leading position in the production of machine-made carpets. Our country alone holds 26.4% of the market; China, which comes right after us, has a market share of 18.4 percent. Also, according to the data of Gaziantep Chamber of Industry, there are 1,273 carpet weaving looms, including tuft technique, in Gaziantep. The majority of Turkey's 26.4 percent market dominance is provided by the products produced in Gaziantep. Turkish is in a position that shapes the world carpet trade, with its leading position in the carpet industry in the global market, being the determinant of technological requirements, and being the trend setter of innovations and trends.”
Erdemoğlu conveys his impressions and views on the 2020 Domotex Carpet Fair as follows: “2020 Domotex Fair has shed light on our process of preparing new collections this year, as it does every year. When the works on both hand-made carpets, machine-made carpets and yarn and floor coverings are evaluated, it is seen that in the carpet fashion of 2020, designs with a predominantly gray background and colored with shades compatible with gray are enriched by adding dimension with glittery yarns. Another trend that we frequently encounter this year is abstract and striped patterns. We saw that vivid colors gave way to pastel tones and serenity came to the fore. Combinations of contemporary carpet patterns and traditional carpets were also striking. Although we predict that traditional lines will never go out of fashion, we see that fun patterns are becoming more and more popular, especially this year.

Recently, significant investments have been made in R&D projects on yarn techniques in order to remain loyal to consumer preferences. The abstract works carried out in this context provided the carpet with a different perspective thanks to its various yarn properties. With the increasing demand for economic carpets to reduce our carbon footprint by using sustainable and recycled polyester materials, we see that efforts are being made in this direction in the industry.
Due to the increase in our country's carpet exports in 2019 compared to 2018, we anticipate that 2020 carpet exports will accelerate and increase. It is one of our most important goals as a company to support this increase by creating new products with all these evaluations.”
Mehmet Erdemoğlu states that the concepts of recycling and zero waste have been discussed on the basis of manufacturers for a long time, and all plans are being made according to this fact, since the recycling of harmful wastes at their sources will reduce the contact of waste with the environment. Erdemoğlu expresses his perspective on carpet recycling as follows: “We have also embraced this fact and our long-lasting R&D studies on carpet recycling will be realized by blending the future expectations of the market with the right results in the last quarter of 2020. With the machines, of which all preliminary preparations and purchases have been completed, both petroleum derivative wastes and granular pet chips in our own facilities will be recycled into chips and yarns and included in the production of machine-made carpets. As it is known, the raw materials included in the textile production, the wastes generated during the production, and the wastes continue to exist for many years without deterioration in nature, since they are petroleum derivatives. It completes this process by causing irreversible damage to the water, soil, and the living creatures it contains. We will turn these wastes from all our production facilities within the holding, as well as pet bottle shards, into machine-made carpets by re-forming them into yarn. This investment has several dimensions in itself:
First, by minimizing our own waste and trash rate, we will re-introduce the inputs that cause value loss.
Secondly, we will prevent these harmful wastes from released to the nature by including pet bottle shards in production, while creating a functional product.

The third is that all these products will be exported; which the economic impact of the investment is also hidden in this dimension.”
